Bias in the Workplace
Becoming Conscious of the Unconscious
Strategies for Both Women & Men to Create More Awareness in the Workplace
It Begins By Understanding That Unconscious Bias Is Real.
A survey of the height of Fortune 500 CEOs revealed that these business titans were on average 6 ft 0 inches, which is approximately 2.5 inches taller than the average American man. Why? Perhaps those on the hiring committee unconsciously associated the candidate’s height with his* ability to lead, his intelligence, and his power.
But of course, few of us would believe that any of these assertions could be true on a conscious level – but what if conclusions are based on the unconscious biases that we all have. Far too often, we make decisions based on prejudices and biases we simply don’t realize we have. And these biases may prevent us from making decisions in the workplace which are fair, equitable, and inclusive.
The Elevate For Her Unconscious Bias training is the only program we offer to both
men and women. These programs each provide a practical look at understanding how to
identify bias and most importantly, how to correct it.
*Men make up more than 95% of Fortune 500 CEOs.
